Contouring: two ways to achieve it with different textures

Did you think you already knew all there is to know about contouring? What if we told you (and showed you) that by using either powder or cream products you can create different effects and looks?Watch the video and find out more, step by step.

STEP 01

What differentiates the cream contour from the powder contour is first of all the finish. The former, generally with a creamy formula and in stick format, gives a delicate dewy effect and is perfect for those who prefer a ‘fresh’ make-up look. The second, ideal for any fan of matte textures, gives an elegant matte effect and allows the features to be enhanced in just a few brush strokes. Turning then to the application of contouring products, while those in cream and stick format are applied with precision by drawing strokes or circles to then be blended with the fingertips or a specific brush, those in powder maximise their performance in terms of coverage if taken and then blended with brushes, for a slightly more subtle effect.

STEP 02

After creating a simple base with a natural, velvety finish, contouring can begin (the technique is the same for both cream and powder contour products). Apply the darkest colour first to the lower cheekbones, temples and jaw (imagine drawing the number ‘3’ on each side of your face starting from the forehead) and blending carefully. Warm up your complexion with blush, applying it to the upper cheekbones and cheeks. You can also apply it to the bridge of the nose if you want. Finally, the glow you deserve: apply highlighter to the top of the cheekbones, the tip of the nose, the Cupid's bow and the chin.
